Olivia Marie

IMG_0591_small.JPG

Olivia is now over 1 year old and doing great. She is starting to walk and wants to do it every chance she gets. She is also a wiz at the stairs and you have to keep the safety gate closed or she is on the second floor in seconds. He is also quite the ambassador. She greats just about anyone (or anything) with a cheerful "Hi". She LOVES her brothers and find every opportunity to pat them. She also has developed quite the palate with favorite foods including pizza, Thai noodles, Indian curry, and Cajun favorites. Lets hope this love of all foods continues into her 20s! :-)

Sydney

SydProfile.jpg

For 14 years I had a constant companion, loyal friend, and bravest of protectors. Through the years her dedication and love of life (and stick, and ball) never wavered. She stood by me, but also those around me. As her surroundings and family changed she remained determined to protect those around her, and give them as much attention and love as she did to me. Every dog owner says that they have the best dog, but that kind of praise from all that knew a dog is reserved for only a special few. Syd was that special of a dog, and she will be greatly and deeply missed. Syd 1994 - 2008 Rest in Peace Pretty Girl.

Teddy

Teddy1.jpg

We picked up a new dog this past weekend (2/16/09) to keep Kobe some company. So far he is apprehensive to say the least. We are sure he will warm up eventually. In the meantime, we are enjoying the virtues of puppyhood to the fullest. Some more virtuous than others! :-)

Kobe

didyousayfood.jpg

Our little guy is now 8 years old, but still as cute as he ever was. He turned out so well we decided to get another Rat Terrier (see Teddy gallery). He is taking that decision in stride. He is definitely NOT thrilled will the puppy, but they will eventually be the best of friends.

Budapest 2011

DSCF3287_small.JPG

In May of 2011 our biannual company conference was held in Budapest Hungary. I was a bit worried about this choice after Karen's opinion of the same city from her travels. It appears that 10 years makes a huge difference in some European cities because Budapest was beautiful and well kept.

With only a couple nights to explore the city, I made the most of the time I had. Enjoy.

Oxford 2010

DSCF3253_small.JPG

In 2010 the Community of Practice that I co-chair had it's annual meet-up in Oxford UK (again). Not a lot of pictures in this album because I only took photos of areas I had not been before. There were, none-the-less some great little spots left in this small UK city.

China 2010

dscf3192_(Modified).jpg

In April of 2010 Canonical sent me to China for a series of meetings and presentations. The following pics were taken over the 4-5 hours I had in total to explore Shanghai and Beijing.
There is quite a contrast between Shanghai and Beijing. Shanghai being a very international city with the modern trappings of a world city, and Beijing being much more of a traditional Chinese city with a far more old world feel.

Scotland 2009

dscf2637_(Small).jpg

In the Fall of 2009 Karen and I needed a break from months of fertility treatments. Friends of ours (Liz and Rob) were already in the midst of planning a trip to Scotland. They VERY generously covered some of our costs so that we could join them for a week rather than a long weekend. We had the very best time. We visited many of the places Karen and I had been to in 2001, but enjoyed them even more with the company of good friends. In the end, the trip was more successful than months of treatments, and when we returned, Karen shortly learned that she was pregnant. No word on whether the baby will be named Scot yet! :-)

Barcelona 2009

dscf2436(small).jpg

In the spring of 2009 Canonical sent me to Barcelona for the 9.10 planning conference (UDS). Beforehand we spent a week at the company All Hands event as well. In the end, two full weeks of photo time in Spain.

Taipei 2008

dscf1707_(Modified).jpg

Had to take a short business trip to Taipei Taiwan this past September. Decided to take my SLR along. Between customer meetings and beer outings with Cvd, Elmo, and ChickenCutlass, I managed to take a few pictures! Thanks to Jouston and Chih for being our generous guides in Taipei. In fact, the entire Taipei team made us feel very much at home in their city. Many Thanks.

Prague 2008

dscf1384_small_(Modified).jpg

In the spring of 2008 I was sent to my first UDS (Developers Conference) for Canonical. As luck would have it, this particular conference was held in Prague. Now....although I was trapped in a hotel full of geeks for most of the week, I did manage to escape to take a few photos. At the end of the conference on the Thursday of that week, I packed up my camera and jumped on the subway for the downtown area alone. I spent the next 7 hours wandering around the city, snapping photos of the amazing architecture and details of the city. Although it was spectacular in the daylight, the city really comes to life at night. I'm not sure I have ever seen a city with such a jewel-like quality at night. Even Paris, the supposed "City of Lights" really has nothing on Prague after the sun goes down.

Bahamas 2007

dscf0643_(Modified).jpg

We were lucky enough to be invited for a long weekend to the lovely Paradise Island Atlantis Resort by my parents. Who are we to turn that down! :-) We took a Friday morning flight down with a layover in South Carolina, where we met up with the rest of the family. After arriving in the Nation of The Bahamas, and past the very cursory immigration check, we were off to Atlantis. We had a hilariously funny bus driver who I felt was thrust into the position by a last minute employee absence. He divulged many details about the island that were not so flattering toward Atlantis/Paradise Island. None the less, it was quite entertaining, and marked the beginning of what would turn out to be a fantastically relaxing trip to paradise.

Italy 2007

dscf0134_(Modified).jpg

On May 18th we took a red eye flight to Milan for a week of travel along the Italian Riviera and Tuscan coastline. We met our friends Jon and Lin for the journey, and had a wonderful time exploring all Italy had to offer......mostly in the food and wine department!
Our red eye flight was delayed in DC, so the trip started off on the wrong foot. Next we shared a row with a guy with serious breathing problems who preceded to fall asleep and snore amazingly loudly for the entire trip. Finally, since we were delayed in DC, and changed in London, we were left with only an hour to circumnavigate Heathrow airport (a monster by the way). Unfortunately, this meant our checked baggage also had very little time to make the connection, and when we landed in Milan I was not greeted by my luggage. From here things did slowly get better. We found our favorite restaurant in Florence from memory, we had gorgeous weather, and our travel the rest of the trip was trouble free.
From Florence we drove a rental car to Manarola, part of the Chinque Terre, a series of 5 Italian Riviera towns. After Manarola we hit the road for the Isle of Elba. Although most known for it's role in Nepoleonic history, it functions as a spectacular summer resort for middle class Italians, and Germans. Next was eastward to Tuscany, and the city of Montepulciano, to visit a B&B we stayed at on our honeymoon. Then finally back to Florence for a last meal at our favorite restaurant, and back on the train to Milan to catch our flight home. Enjoy the pictures.

Colorado 2007

img_0843.jpg

On March 11th I took a flight to Denver to ski the many resorts around the Continental Divide. Mike Marchand, and Casey Cavanna joined me on the trip. Great weather, and superb snow conditions followed us all week, and we ended up with a spring ski trip to remember.
We managed to hit 4 different resorts from our base camp at Breckenridge, CO. The first was Loveland. It is a "small" resort when compared to some of the others around, but there was more than enough terrain to keep us busy all day. We didn't even ski whole sections of the slope because we only had one day.
Next was Breckenridge. This mountain was huge. It is actually 4 peaks. We skied our way across the mountain the first day, then returned later in the week to ski our favorites for a second full day. We barely scratched the surface of the available terrain in 2 days.
After the first day at Breck, ski day 3 was spent at A-Basin. Excellent advanced skier's mountain. Lots of steep shoots and long cruisers. Mike switched to skiis for this day, and is glad he did. It would have been tough on a board.
Ski day 4 was back to Breck after a evening storm rolled through.
Ski day 5 and St. Patricks day was spent at Copper Creek. This is also a large mountain, but the terrain was less varied and focussed more on intermediate skiers. We still had fun on the ultra-wide cruisers, and the glade runs.
It was quite the ski week, and I am looking forward to next March. West Coast anyone?!

Practice

dscf0034_(Modified).jpg

I'm using this album for the images I collect while trying out the new features of my camera. It is similar to the film camera I was using before, but with about 1000 additions, adjustments, and settings. So... different enough that I need to make sure I have a basic understanding of the features, and how to manipulate them to get the shots I am looking for. Hopefully the results will speak for themselves.
